New Faith for a New Season: Finding God's Purpose in Every Chapter

God often does His most powerful work during seasons of change and transition. As we celebrate 50 years of New Faith Church, we are reminded that God’s calling is not just about where we've been, but about where He is leading us next. Just like Peter stepping out of the boat, we are called to embrace new faith for a new season.

Special 50th Anniversary Celebration

This sermon was part of our church's 50th anniversary celebration, featuring guest speaker Matt Rice, Lead Pastor at Life City Church. We are especially grateful to Matt, who grew up in our church, for taking the time to speak at this milestone event and share his heart with us.

When Does God Call Us to New Faith?

God often calls us to deeper faith in the midst of ordinary circumstances. The disciples were simply trying to cross the lake when Jesus appeared, walking on water. This reminds us that we don’t have to wait for perfect conditions for God to move in our lives—He is always working, even in the "same old" moments.

What Does New Faith Require?

New faith requires stepping from the familiar into the unknown. When Peter saw Jesus walking on water, he made a bold request: "Lord, if it’s You, tell me to come to You on the water" (Matthew 14:28). This shows us that Jesus calls us beyond what we think is possible. As a church and as individuals, we must be willing to trust God beyond our comfort zones.

How Does God Use Our Failures?

One of the most powerful aspects of faith is how God uses both our successes and failures to grow us. Peter’s story isn’t just about walking on water—it’s also about sinking and being rescued by Jesus. This teaches us that:

  • Jesus calls us knowing we will stumble sometimes.

  • Our failures can help us connect with others who need grace.

  • God is present in both our victories and our valleys.

What’s the Purpose of Renewed Faith?

The ultimate purpose of renewed faith is to inspire others to worship Jesus. When Peter and Jesus returned to the boat, the other disciples worshipped, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God" (Matthew 14:33). Our testimonies—whether they are filled with triumphs or struggles—can lead others to Christ.

Life Application

As we step into this next season at New Faith Church, consider:

  • Where is God calling you to step out in faith?

  • What “familiar boats” do you need to leave behind?

  • How can your story—including your struggles—help lead others to Jesus?

Questions for Reflection:

  • What area of your life needs renewed faith right now?

  • Are you allowing past failures to hold you back from stepping out again?

  • Who needs to hear your testimony of God’s faithfulness?

The Challenge:

Take one step this week toward something God is calling you to do, even if it seems impossible. New faith often requires leaving our comfort zones so we can experience God’s supernatural power.
