Are You Living by Truth or Just Following Trends?
In today’s culture, identity is everything. People define themselves by their job titles, social media presence, achievements, or even their past mistakes. But what happens when those things fade? Who are you really?

The world is constantly pushing trends—telling us who we should be, how we should look, and what should define us. But God’s truth is unchanging. As followers of Christ, we are called to root our identity in Him, not in the latest cultural wave.

The Struggle to Break Free From Our Past
In Acts 8:9-23, we meet Simon the Sorcerer, a man who was famous for his supernatural abilities. People admired him, calling him “the great power of God.” His identity was built on what he could do—not who he was in Christ.
But then, he encountered the gospel. Simon believed, was baptized, and began following Philip. Yet, deep inside, he still struggled with his true identity. When he saw the apostles laying hands on people and the Holy Spirit moving, he tried to buy that power—revealing that he was still clinging to his old identity instead of surrendering to Christ.
This same struggle happens today. We say we believe, but are we still chasing success, approval, or cultural trends to define us?
Truth vs. Trends: Where Do You Find Your Identity?
Here’s the question: Are you letting trends or truth guide your identity?
📉 Trends say:
"Your worth is based on how successful you are."
"Your identity comes from what others think of you."
"You need to keep up with culture to stay relevant."
📖 Truth says:
"You are a child of God" (John 1:12).
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).
"You have been chosen and called with a purpose" (1 Peter 2:9).
Like Simon, we must make a choice—will we find our identity in Christ, or will we chase the
labels and expectations of the world? The question is Who Does God Say You Are?
What’s Your Next Step?
If you’ve been struggling with identity, take time to reflect on who God says you are. Spend time in His Word. Let go of the need for approval from the world, and rest in the fact that God has already approved you in Christ.
🙌 Let’s commit to living by truth, not trends!
